BEXLEY, Ohio -- Sophomore Blake Easterling (Barberton, Ohio) scored at the 73:43 mark to lead the Hiram College men's soccer to a 1-0 road win at Capital on Wednesday evening.
The Terriers are now 4-2-2 on the season, while the Crusaders fall to 2-5-0.
After the teams battled through a scoreless first half, Easterling was able to score to give Hiram the win.
Easterling was able to capitalize off of a Capital turnover. As the ball was played in the backfield he was able to cut off a chance for a Crusader to play the ball. Easterling chipped a shot over the drawn out goalkeeper and into the net for his first goal of the season and his career.
Senior Matt Sacher (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) and junior Chris Lindemeyer (Lodi, Ohio/Cloverleaf) combined for a shutout in goal. Sacher did not record a save in the win, while Wilhelm made three saves.
The Terriers held a 11-9 edge in shots, including a slim 4-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Crusaders took three corner kicks to Hiram's one.
The Terriers will return to action on Saturday as they host Wooster in the NCAC opener for both teams. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
