HIRAM, OHIO -- Junior Tanner Mathews (Alliance/Marlington) scored in the 39th minute to lead the Hiram College men's soccer team in a 1-1 tie with Allegheny (Pa.) on Wednesday evening.

The Terriers are now 6-6-2 on the season and 1-2-2 in the NCAC, while the Gators stand at 4-7-2, 0-3-1.

Mathews goal come off of a corner kick and gives him five on the season, which is tied for the team lead.

Junior Andrew Bradley (Westlake/St. Edward) sent the corner kick into the box. Mathews was able to control the loose ball and fire a shot from just outside the six-yard box into the lower right of the net.

Allegheny looked to respond minutes later when Stefano Wach fired a shot from just inside the six-yard box. Freshman goalkeeper Luke Wilhelm (Shaker Heights/University) was able to make the stop to deny the chance.

Wilhelm would deny the Gators again late in the first half, making a leaping save to his left.

Allegheny would control play for the majority of the second half and would score in the 89th minute to force overtime.

Hiram outshot the Gators 3-2 in the first overtime session, but would come up empty.

Late in the second overtime, Mathews controlled a ball in the box and rocketed a shot that hit the far post. Senior Ryan Kramarz (Chesterland/West Geauga) would follow with a shot moments later, but it was saved.

Wilhelm made seven saves in the match and is now 1-0-2 on the season.

The Terriers held a slim 18-17 advantage in shots and also held a 12-9 edge in corner kicks.

Hiram will play next on Saturday, when it begins a three game NCAC road swing at Wittenberg at 2:00 p.m.
