Box Score HIRAM, OHIO -- Junior Zaire Morrison (Boardman) scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal as the Hiram College men's soccer team tallied its first win of the season with a 2-1 victory against Penn State-Behrend (Pa.) in the home opener at Charles A. Henry Field.
The game remainded scoreless until the 22:33 minute mark of the first half when Hiram (1-3) broke the stalemate thanks to a goal by sophomore Richard Webb (Alicante, Spain/Laude Lady Elizabeth School) that included an assist by senior All-North Coast Athletic Conference midfielder Andy Harding (Bath/Revere). The goal by Webb was the only scoring of the opening period as Hiram went into the locker rooms with the 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, Zaire gave the Terriers a cushion with a score during the 55th minute putting Hiram up, 2-0. Junior Ryan Kramarz (Chesterland/West Geauga) was credited with an assist on the Morrison goal. Behrend (2-1) rallied back and narrowed the Hiram lead to 2-1 with a score at the 72:38 mark. But the Terriers prevented the Lions from netting the game equalizer and went on to post the 2-1 victory.
In net for Hiram, junior goalkeeper Chris Minite (Aurora) played all 90 minutes to get the win and improve to 1-3 for the season. He allowed the lone goal and made six saves.
Hiram will next travel to Bexley for a non-conference matchup against Capital University on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
