LATROBE, PA.  --  The Hiram College men's soccer team defeated Saint Vincent (Pa.) College in a non-conference game in Latrobe, Pa.

Following tonight's outcome, the Terriers improve to 9-0 overall, while the Bearcats fall to 5-4-1 overall for the season.

After a scoreless first half, Hiram picked up the offensive attack, outshooting Saint Vincent, 23-3 in the second period and 32-7 overall for the game.  The Terriers recorded the game's first goal at the 53:07 minute mark when senior All-North Coast Athletic Conference defenseman Daniel O'Callaghan (Aberdale, Wales, United Kingdom) found the back of the net with a helper from senior All-Region midfielder Ryan Greenhill (Solon).  Hiram struck again during the 67th minute when senior All-Region forward Ryan Minick (North Royalton) scored what would turn out to be the game-winner to put the Terriers up 2-0.  Greenhill tallied his second assist of the game on the Minick goal.  The Bearcats made things interesting in the final minutes scoring a goal at the 81:05 mark from Josue Cuadra to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.  But Saint Vincent could not record the equalizer as Hiram hung on for the 2-1 victory.

In net for Hiram, the combination of freshman Kirby Rice (Copley) and sophomore Chris Minite (Aurora) helped Hiram post the victory.  Rice started the game and played the first half allowing no goals and had no saves.  Minite played the final 45 minutes and claimed the win, improving to 3-0 for the season.  In 45 minutes, he gave up one goal and had one save.

Hiram will host Ohio Wesleyan University, the defending NCAA Division III National Champion, on Friday, Sept. 28.  The game will be part of a soccer doubleheader with the Terrier women's team.  The women will also be taking on OWU and will square off against the Battling Bishops at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m.
