Men's Soccer Defeats Denison University in Overtime; Terriers Clinch Spot in NCAC Tournament

GRANVILLE, OHIO – The Hiram College men's soccer team defeatedDenison University, 1-0, today (Saturday, Oct. 29) in overtime in the North Coast Athletic Conference and regular-season finale in Granville.

With the win, the Terriers improve to 10-5-1 overall and 5-4 in the NCAC. The Big Red fall to 8-7-2 overall and 4-5 NCAC.

Hiram outshot Denison, 19-13, after regulation, but the score remained deadlocked at 0-0, forcing an overtime period. Early in the first overtime, junior midfielder Ty Smith (Rocky River/St. Ignatius) broke the stalemate with the game-winning goal at the 91:59 minute mark to seal a 1-0 victory for the Terriers.

Junior Joe Rottinger (Strongsville) played the entire game for Hiram in net and got the win, including his fifth shutout, to end the regular season with a 10-5-1 overall mark. He allowed no goals and had no saves.

Hiram qualifies for its third appearance in the NCAC Tournament which begins on Wednesday, Nov. 2. The Terriers will be the number three seed and take on second-seeded DePauw (Ind.) University in a semifinal game. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m. on Wednesday in Greencastle, Ind.
