Hiram opened its busy four-day stretch at the Mount Union Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Kehres Stadium, a chance for both the men's and women's teams to find their midseason form with the PAC Championships still to come at the end of the month.
Men's Recap
Kenta Poole set the new outdoor program record in the hammer throw, posting a mark of 41.56m to place 16th in a field that primarily included Division II athletes. Reginald Coats also got in on the action on Friday, posting a mark of 38.83m in the javelin throw, which placed 14th in the field and set a new personal best.
Dre Nelson topped Hiram's leaderboard in the 100-meter dash prelims (11.64), while Michael Crosby had a nice run in the 1,500-meter race (4:37.32). Freshman Jacob Brown then followed with a strong run in the 400-meter dash (52.95).
Rounding out the weekend in Alliance was Corey Jenkins in the 200-meter dash (23.74), Kaden Duke in the shot put (10.84m) and discus (33.79m), and the duo of Daylin Wood and Taneil Gaddis in the long jump (both 5.70m).
Women's Recap
Sam Volpe opened the weekend with a mark of 44.65m in the hammer throw, which beat her own program record (43.39m) and placed the highest among all Division III student-athletes at the event. The junior also beat her own program record and placed first in the discus (42.60m) and placed second in the shot put (12.38m).
In the track events on Saturday, Elaine Guyette got things going in the 1500-meter run (5:16.30), which placed 17th in the loaded field and marked a new personal best. Guyette's younger sister, Abby Guyette, along with McKenzie Riley, then teamed up and placed 12th and 13th in the 800-meter run (2:27.33 and 2:27.89 respectively).
Also competing at the event was Kylee Neer in the 400-meter hurdles (1:17.40), Frances Popik in the 200-meter dash (27.99) and MacKenzie Norton in the 5,000-meter run (20:09.68). Kelsey Downs (9.16m) and Sarah Douglas (8.81m) also participated in the triple jump to round out the weekend for the team.
