Track & Field Posts Pair Of Top-10 Results In Berea, Ohio

Terriers Get Another Tuneup Before NCAC Championships

BEREA, Ohio - April 20, 2024 - The Hiram track and field teams had another tuneup before the NCAC Championships on Saturday afternoon, as both the men and women took part in the 54th Annual Sparky Adams Invitational at George Finnie Stadium.

The men's team placed seventh in the field of 12, while the women's team tied for 10th in a field of 16.

Men's Recap

Jacob Mancini had the team's top time in the 400-meter dash (56.31), while freshman Kyle Filkill finished 25th in a field of 43 student-athletes with an impressive mark of 23.98 in the 200-meter dash. Filkill later returned to competition in the high jump, tying for eighth (1.76m).

The 4x100 team of Bryce Roberson, Jacob Mancini, Dre Nelson and Andrew Thompson placed third out of four teams with a 47.29. Baldwin Wallace and Franciscan headed the pack in that particular event.

Jarvis Thompson lifted his team up the event ladder with a 6.25m mark in the long jump, good enough for fifth place out of 22 student-athletes. Shortly thereafter, Thompson won the triple jump (13.28m) and continued his breakout freshman season.

Wrapping up the day was Marciano McCowan in the javelin (41.25m), as the junior placed fifth to cap off a strong effort from the Terriers.

Women's Recap

On the women's side, Kylie Moser had the team's best mark in the 5,000-meter run (21:02.38), with Elaine Guyette not too far behind (21:11.05). Moser replicated her success in the javelin, placing fourth out of 21 student-athletes (32.22m).

Trezure Bates also found success in multiple events, placing sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.91) and winning the pole vault (2.45m). Kelsey Downs was also busy in the field events, participating in both the high jump (1.36m) and long jump (4.44m).

Kayla Mack placed 12th in the discus (32.12m) and Samantha Volpe was 7th in the shot put (10.86m) to put a bow on the encouraging day.

What's Next

The final meet before the NCAC Championships will begin on Friday, when Hiram heads to Ashland, Ohio for the two-day Alumni Open. The conference championships are scheduled for Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4 in Granville, Ohio.
