YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – February 26, 2026- The Hiram Terrier track & field team traveled to Youngstown, Ohio on the campus of the Youngstown State University Penguins for the PAC Indoor Track & Field Championships early Thursday morning. The Terriers competed very well on the track as well as jumping and throwing far in the field, teaming together for a very successful day with many personal bests, school records and all-conference finishes (first, second or third place in the finals of an event). As a team, the women's side finished 5th and the men's side tied for 4th.
Things got started early in the morning for the Terriers, as Karalyn Rutkowski started off the day for Hiram with a second-place finish in the women's high jump, clearing a mark of 1.60 meters. Following that impressive performance was the women's shot put, where Sam Volpe finished second with a mark of 12.49 meters. Kylie Moser also placed in that event, throwing a mark of 11.38m for a huge personal best and a fifth-place finish.
In the long jump, Juliana Gunn finished third with a huge jump in her final attempt which led a personal best with a mark of 5.12 meters. In the weight throw, Kenta Poole set a new personal best and broke the school record in that event, throwing a mark of 14.23 m for a third-place finish. The women's side followed that up, with four Terriers finishing inside the top-eight to score plenty of team points for Hiram. Leading the way for that group was Angelina Weems, who threw a mark of 15.00 m to win that event -- Weems later took home PAC Newcomer of the Year for her efforts throughout the indoor season.
On the track, the Terriers' success continued, as there were plenty more personal bests and school records broken.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Sebastian Regalado and Maurice Wadesisi finished second and fifth in that event, with Regalado finishing with a time of 8.71 and Wadesisi finishing with a time of 8.93. The success in the same event continued, with Trezure Bates winning the event on the women's side, setting a new PR and breaking her own school record with a time of 9.19. Makyndree Smith was not far behind, finishing fifth with a time of 9.81.
In the 60-meter dash, Kevin Dycks continued his impressive form, running a school record and personal best 6.97 in prelims and following it up with a 6.99 and fourth-place finish in the finals. Dycks continued to roll in the 200-meter dash, finishing eighth with a personal best and school record of 22.52. In the 800-meter race, Aidan Shiels and DeAco Curry finished first and second in that event, with Shiels running a personal best and new school record time of 1:54.13 and Curry also running a personal best with a time of 1:55.60.
Both Shiels and Curry were not finished.
The night was capped off by really impressive performances in the 4x400 meter relay by both the men's and women's teams. The women's team finished third, with the team of Abby Guyette, Kylie Moser, McKenzie Riley and Frances Popik running a time of 4:13.51. On the men's side, the Terriers battled for first place position the entire race, with the team of Kamran Walton, Curry, Shiels and Nathan Feltner not giving up their first-place position. Every member battled for position, and the Terriers ended up securing that first -lace spot, but not without beating the old school record by 10 seconds and setting a new PAC record in that event with a time of 3:19.72.
The Terriers will now transition into outdoor season, with a lot of new goals and personal bests to try and aim for. Their first outdoor meet will not take place until March 27th, when they travel to Oberlin College for the Bob Kahn Invite and the start to the outdoor season.
