HIRAM, Ohio - May 16, 2025 - Darian Kanno has set plenty of school records, earned five all-conference honors and spearheaded some of the best seasons in Hiram Softball history throughout her four collegiate seasons.
A new accomplishment was added to the trophy case on Friday afternoon.
For the first time in her career, Kanno was named to the NFCA Region VII First Team following a breakout season as both a pitcher and utility player. The senior had previously earned Second Team All-Region honors in both 2022 and 2023 before earning Third Team All-Region in 2024. Kanno is also the first student-athlete in program history to be a four-time All-Region selection.
It's difficult to choose one season, but Kanno arguably had the best season of her career in 2025, slashing .467/.528/.819 (1.347 OPS) with team-highs in doubles (14), triples (four), home runs (five), RBI (31), total bases (86) and walks (14). As a pitcher, she went 13-6 with a 1.45 ERA and 138 strikeouts over 121 innings.
Those stats come on the heels of Kanno's fourth straight All-NCAC Tournament Team selection and her fifth all-conference selection within the North Coast Athletic Conference. She is the only student-athlete in program history to earn those awards in each of their four seasons with the team.
Kanno will graduate from Hiram College in possession of the career program pitching records in wins (47), strikeouts (497) and earned run average (2.17), while also holding the career program hitting records in batting average (.414), on-base percentage (.465), slugging percentage (.676), triples (15) and total bases (336). Beyond the on-field achievements, the Mililani, HI native was also the school's Pam Smith Award nominee, which recognizes a student-athlete's academic achievement, service and leadership.
Hiram College Softball will return to action in the spring of 2026 as a member of the Presidents' Athletic Conference. The program will be seeking a sixth straight season with more than 20 wins.
