HIRAM, Ohio - February 4, 2025 - Hiram's Sam Volpe continued to rewrite the record books this past Saturday at the Wuske Invite in Alliance, breaking her own indoor program record in the shot put and placing fourth in a field that was led by a pair of Division II athletes at Slippery Rock University.
Those efforts were recognized by the North Coast Athletic Conference on Tuesday morning.
The NCAC named Volpe the NCAC Athlete of the Week for field athletes, making her the second female student-athlete in the program to earn the conference-wide honor since the program returned to competition in 2023-24 (Makyndree Smith).
Volpe, who is a sophomore from Concord, Ohio, posted a new record mark of 38' 5" to finish only behind Rebecca Martin (Slippery Rock), Olivia Heckman (Slippery Rock) and Makayla Sitzlar (Mount Union). Her previous record was 35'10" from the 2024 season.
The Terriers track & field team collectively set five program records at the second indoor event of the 2024-25 season, providing a jolt of momentum leading into the team's next event on Friday at the Dan Kinsey Invite in Oberlin, Ohio.
