CANTON, Ohio - November 20, 2025 - Both Hiram swimming teams opened competition at the Malone Invitational on Thursday, which involves six sessions (preliminaries and finals) over three days at Branin Natatorium on the campus of Division II Malone University.
Â
Not only is it a midseason barometer to see where each team is performing at this point in the lengthy season, but it also follows the same format as the conference championships later in the year.
Â
The men's team currently ranks 10th, while the women's team is 13th.
Â
The men's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Ethan O'Malley, David Slovenkay, Owen Pastorius and Jon Hybil posted a time of 1:30.61 to rank 13th in a field that was topped by Division II Gannon University. One event later, Pastorius returned to the pool and ranked seventh in the 500-yard freestyle (4:51.01), coming even closer to the program-record mark set by Santiago Morales in 2009 (4:43.53).
Â
Rounding out the evening for the Terriers was the 400-yard medley relay team, which consisted of Slovenkay, Hybil, Pastorius, O'Malley (3:48.64).
Â
Not included in the final results sheet was the preliminary races, which saw multiple student-athletes from both teams jump into action for one of the most rigorous weeks of the campaign.
Â
Hiram will return to competition on Friday, with prelims set to start at 10 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m. inside Branin Natatorium.
