HIRAM, Ohio – August 26, 2024 – Hiram shortstop Fayth Kawamura came out on top this past season, leading all Division III student-athletes for sacrifice bunts per game with 0.60 (24 in 40 games). She was awarded a plaque to honor her achievement, making her the official NCAA Division III Statistical Champion.
Among all Division III student-athletes, Evann McDowell (Rensselaer, 0.52) and Kayla Roddy (Thiel, 0.45) ranked second and third in sacrifice bunts per game. McDowell joined Kawamura as the only other Division III student-athlete to have 20+ sacrifice bunts throughout the 2024 campaign.
In terms of her place in Hiram softball history, Kawamura also holds the record for total sacrifice bunts earned within a single season (24) as well as the career record (34).
Along with her elite ability to move runners over, Kawamura also holds a variety of accolades at Hiram as an All-NCAC First Team selection and NFCA Division III All-Region Team honoree in 2024. Over her first two seasons with the program in 2022 and 2023, she was an All-NCAC Second Team selection in 2022 and a two-time NCAC All-Tournament Team honoree.
The Terriers finished the 2024 season with a 25-17 record (10-4 NCAC), which included a pair of victories to open the NCAC Tournament. The team has won at least 25 games in each of the last three seasons and will now look to make another run at a conference championship in the spring of 2025.
