CLEVELAND, Ohio - February 25, 2023 - The Hiram men's wrestling team competed at the NCAA Division III Central Regional on the campus of Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, one of the team's final events of the season.
Alex Savering (141 lbs) and Devan Welch (285 lbs) highlighted the team's notable performances.
Savering won by major decision over Heidelberg's Josh Gibson (13-3) and by technical fall over Ohio Wesleyan's Gabe Bulugaris (20-4). His losses came against Case Western Reserve by decision (6-2) and against Mount Union by decision (6-4).
Welch scored the team's other points on the day, beginning with a win in the preliminary round against Case Western Reserve's Keith Heinemann by fall (2:21). His losses were to Heidelberg (decision, 3-1) and Muskingum (decision, 3-0).
Savering and Welch combined to score 6.0 team points, which placed Hiram 18th out of the 20 teams competing.
Also in the mix for the Terriers throughout the event were Ian Fuentes (125 lbs), Will Brodbeck (133), Grayson Smith (149), Kaelon Lawson-West (157), Seth Holt (165), Jimmy Thomas (174), Kwame Stewart (184) and Zach Harper (197).
The Central Regional continues at Case Western Reserve University on Sunday.
