WILMINGTON, Ohio – November 4, 2023 – The Hiram men's and women's swimming teams both lost to Wilmington on Saturday afternoon at the Wilmington Natatorium: 136-123 (men) and 168-86 (women).
Both meets were highly competitive, with both Terriers programs picking up multiple wins and proving it can compete against a strong team from the OAC.
Men's Recap
Sophomore
Owen Pastorius was the first Hiram student-athlete to pick up a win, as he took down the 800-meter freestyle by more than 13 seconds (9:53.31). He then followed it up with another two victories in the 200-meter butterfly with a mark of 2:34.44 and the 400-meter freestyle (4:43.45).
Junior
Dayne Sauter sped his way past the competition in the 50-meter freestyle, finishing first with a time of 24.79.
Adam Johnson would keep the Terriers within striking distance by winning the 200-meter breaststroke (2:45.58) as well.
Wilmington would sneak by and win the meet thanks to a win in the 200-meter freestyle relay, which was the final event of the day.
Women's Recap
On the women's side, the Terriers fought their way back early on thanks to junior
Natalie Brown's performance in the 800-meter freestyle (11:19.97). Another experienced swimmer, senior
Elena Rinaldi, gave her team another nine points with a win in the 200-meter butterfly (3:05.84).
Brown would finish off her big day by winning the 400-meter freestyle (5:32.35), with
Moraine Jackson also having solid times in the 200-meter freestyle (2:33.71), 50-meter freestyle (30.89) and 100-meter freestyle (1:07.64).
The Quakers were able to stay strong throughout the meet and hang on for the victory, but the result still had plenty of positives for a Hiram team that already has two wins this season.
What's Next
Both teams will return home and host Bethany this upcoming Saturday at 1 p.m. at Alumni Memorial Pool. Seniors will be honored before the meet as part of the Senior Day festivities.Â
