BETHANY, West Virginia - January 13, 2023 - Hiram kicked off its busy weekend with a sweep of Bethany on Friday; the men's team won 99-58 and the women won 101-91 inside the John J. Knight Natatorium. The men now have a 4-2 record, while the women will enter the weekend with a 3-4 record.
The meet marks both teams' first competition since the Wooster Invitational from Dec. 1-3.
Men
Sophomore Dayne Sauter, who set the school records in the 100-yard IM (55.44) and the 100-yard freestyle (47.14, first leg of 400-yard freestyle relay) at the Wooster Invitational, won three different events on the evening, including the 100-yard freestyle (53.78) and 50-yard breaststroke (30.18). He was also part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team with Nathan Ratynski, Jon Hybil and Owen Pastorius (1:37.31).
Hybil and Pastorius, two of the team's promising freshmen, combined for four victories in the individual events against Bethany. Hybil notably won the 50-yard freestyle (23.18) and Pastorius took down the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.50).
Gabe Farthing wrapped up the night with a pair of wins himself: 50-yard backstroke (30.06) and 100-yard backstroke (1:05.94).
The men's team will continue competition on Saturday against Washington and Jefferson beginning at 1 p.m. at the Alumni Memorial Pool in Hiram, Ohio.
Women
Lilly MacDonald will be celebrating Senior Day on Saturday, but first celebrated a pair of individual victories in the 50-yard breaststroke (35.75) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:19.90)Â to go along with a win in the 200-yard medley relay (2:17.57). That team also consisted of Moraine Jackson, Elena Rinaldi and Adrianna Klepper.
Rinaldi and Klepper kept their productive evening rolling along, each recording a pair of wins in the individual events. Rinaldi won the 100-yard butterfly (1:11.19) and 50-yard butterfly (29.30), while Klepper won the 50-yard freestyle (29.10) and 100-yard freestyle (1:05.07).
The women will have a pair of home meets on Saturday; they will compete against Washington and Jefferson and Franciscan beginning at 1 p.m. MacDonald and Carrie Robinson will be honored before the meet as part of the Senior Day festivities.
