ERIE, Pa. – February 20, 2022 - Hiram women's wrestling competed in the first-ever postseason event in program history at the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships on Sunday.
With her fourth-place finish at 109 lbs., freshman
Kylee Bentley is headed to the Cliff Keen National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships on March 4 and 5.
Bentley started off her day by besting Lisa McChesney of East Stroudsburg by a score of 14-3. In her second match, the Hubbard, Ohio native fell against Julianne Moccia of Gannon.
Bentley rebounded in her third match, taking down Janieliz Cotto of East Stroudsburg. Despite dropping her final match against Trinity Oredina, the freshman claimed the fourth place finish in the weight class.
Bethany Smith dropped two matches on the event wrestling at 130 lbs. Sam Houser of Gannon and Lily Sherer of Lock Haven defeated Smith by scores of 12-0 and 6-2.
Katie Vogt-Shields, wrestling at 143 lbs., fell in two matches against Ava Bibeau of East Stroudsburg and Sidney Ramos of Tiffin.
At 170 lbs.,
Kinora Hayes was bested by Aspen Dodge of Adrian in her first match. Hayes rebounded, defeating Hazel Dahlquist of Elmira in her second match. Hayes dropped her final two bouts to close out the day.
Sandra Guerrero took down
JoRee Ybarra in her first match of the day at 191 lbs. Ybarra fell to Tayana Labady of Elmira closing out her day.
Bentley takes part in the Cliff Keen National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships scheduled for March 4 and 5 in Adrian, Michigan.
