ADA, Ohio – December 3, 2022 – The Terriers had success at the Ohio Northern Invitational, with multiple wrestlers picking up wins in their respective brackets for each weight class. Hiram as a team finished 13
th with 15.5 points.
Ian Fuentes won by tech fall (16-0) in the consolation bracket at 125 lbs, beating Adrian's Donovan Kelly. The freshman would lose his other two matches, but scored 2.5 points for the team.
Will Brodbeck scored 1.0 points with a win by decision (7-3) over Tiffin's Bryson Cole at 141 lbs. Brodbeck lost to Ohio Northern's Jacob Reed (Fall 0:51) and by major decision (17-3) to Lycoming's Cooper Gilham.
Alex Savering advanced to the quarterfinals of the 141-lb bracket thanks to a win over Ohio Northern's Colton Spurgeon by decision (8-4). The junior would lose in the quarterfinals by sudden victory (9-7) to Muskingum's Tanner Donathan.
Kaelon Lawson-West won by decision on two different occasions in the 157-lb class, beating Olivet's Jarrett Thorne (5-3) and Adrian's Angelo Mastroianni (7-6). He scored his team 1.5 points.
At 165 lbs,
Seth Holt also picked up a pair of wins: by decision over Ohio Wesleyan's Christian Tesnow (7-5) and by fall over Ohio Northern's Noah Williamson (5:39).
At 174 lbs,
Jimmy Thomas scored 3.5 team points thanks to a win by tech fall over Dubuque's Julius Boimah (17-2). He eventually would lose in the quarterfinals of that bracket to Heidelberg's Owen Frizzell (Fall, 1:49).
Devan Welch finished off the day with 3.0 team points in the 285-lb bracket; he won by decision (6-3) over Olivet's Boe Eckman and by major decision over Muskingum's Joshua Page (11-3). Welch would fall in the quarterfinals to Tiffin's Jacob Noon (Fall, 1:53).
Also putting up solid performances for the Terriers were
Corey Casterline (133 lbs),
Zach Harper (197 lbs) and
Nick Maule (285 lbs).
Hiram will travel to Jamestown, NY on Saturday, December 10
th for a pair of dual meets against Jamestown Community College (2 p.m.) and Penn State Behrend (3:30 p.m.).
