ALLIANCE, Ohio - November 5, 2022 – The Hiram men's wrestling team started its season with a 9th-place finish at the Mount Union Invitational. The Terriers totaled 6.0 points, highlighted by a pair of wins from Alex Savering (141 lbs.) and a win by senior Devan Welch (285 lbs.).

Savering, who led the team with 21 wins last season, won by decision over West Liberty's Luke Miller and by major decision over Ferrum's Andres Ramirez.  The junior from Kent, Ohio would lose in the quarterfinal round, but finished scoring 3.0 points for the team.

Welch's win came by fall over Mount St. Joseph's Hunter Mcnay, which made him the 4th Hiram wrestler since the start of last season to record 10+ career wins (joins Savering, Isaac DeVault, Jimmy Thomas). Welch also finished accounting for 3.0 team points.

Thomas (174 lbs.) received a bye into the quarterfinal before falling short against Gannon's Christian Scheller by fall. The sophomore finished the day 0-2.

The Terriers continue the early stages of their season this Saturday at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational at 9:45 a.m. The team finished 11th out of 17 teams at the event just one year ago.
