Hiram Swimming & Diving Competes in W&J Tri-Meet

WASHINGTON, Pa. - January 15, 2022 Hiram men's and women's swimming & diving were back in action for the first time in the new year on Saturday, taking on Washington & Jefferson and Franciscan in a tri-meet hosted by the Presidents at Henry Natatorium.
 
The Terriers dropped both contests, with the men taking a tough loss to W&J, 120-112, while the women fell to the Presidents, 177-89, and Franciscan, 144-104.
 
With his 50-yard backstroke time of 27.95 in the 200-yard medley relay, Landon Hughes kicked the tri-meet off for the Terriers with a bang, coming in at fifth on Hiram's Top 15 times list.
 
The men and women finished second and third in the 200-yard medley relay, respectively, before Hughes kicked off his day with an 11:32.35 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, good for second place.
 
After Natalie Brown took third in the same event with a time of 13:07.45, while Carrie Robinson finished with a personal-best time of 15:15.68, shaving 15 seconds off her previous best time, Dayne Sauter earned the Terriers first individual win of the day, with a time of 1:56.28 in the 200-yard freestyle.
 
Up next in the 100-yard backstroke, Adam Ellis and Devin Gear earned second and third-place finishes, with times of 1:07.60 and 1:10.17. On the women's side, Carlee Lisser came in second place as well, with a time of 1:10.30 in the 100-yard backstroke.
 
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Jacob Carleton took home second with a time of 1:13.05, while Lilly MacDonald and Moraine Jackson came in with times of 1:21.68 and 1:27.62 on the women's side.
 
Gabe Farthing then won the Terriers' second event of the day, with a 2:21.28 time in the 200-yard butterfly, with Ellis right behind him at 2:35.73. On the women's side, Elena Rinaldi came in second place with her 2:39.98 time, while Madelyn Sagle set a new personal best with her 3:38.13 time.
 
Vincent AhSam-Kreiter pulled in a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, coming in at 24.03, with Gear just a second and a half behind him at 25.54.
 
In the 100-yard freestyle, Sauter won his second event of the day, coming in with a time of 50.45, while Gear earned another second-place finish with his time of 56.35. On the women's side, Jackson and Brown pulled in times of 1:06.25 and 1:08.80.
 
Ellis next pulled in another individual win for the Terriers, taking home first in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:05.57 time, and Farthing coming up behind him in second place at 2:51.60.
 
Lisser then continued the Terriers pace, winning the women's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:33.32.
 
Sauter then added to his tally with a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, swimming a 2:39.70, while Carleton came in third with a time of 2:54.68. MacDonald also took home a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, with her time of 2:59.98.
 
Up next in the 500-yard freestyle, Hughes added another individual win with his time of 5:33.90, while Lisser equaled him her first-place time of 5:55.02.
 
In the 100-yard butterfly, Farthing and Rinaldi added two second-place finishes with their times of 1:01.26 and 1:09.45, while AhSam-Kreiter tallied a third-place finish with his time of 1:03.10.
 
Hughes then added another individual win, his second of the day, in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:10.45 time, while AhSam-Kreiter finished third at 2:23.09.
 
Both sides then wrapped up the day with the 400-yard freestyle relay, with the men coming in second, and the women fourth.
 
The Terriers next travel to Wooster, Ohio on Saturday, Jan. 22 for a North Coast Athletic Conference Quad-Meet against Allegheny, Ohio Wesleyan and Wooster, beginning at 1 p.m.
