CLEVELAND, Ohio - April 5, 2021 – Hiram softball freshman
Abriana Schwartz was named the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Softball Player of the Week for the week of March 29 - April 4, as announced by the conference on Monday.
Schwartz helped lead the Terriers to three wins over The College of Wooster, batting .533/.611/1.067 with three doubles, a home run, five runs scored and 10 RBI.
"It is really exciting to have a freshman step up in huge games and at critical moments throughout those games." Head Coach Scot Pohlman said. "Abriana is a gritty player who has come up big early and often already. We look forward to what she continues to do throughout the remainder of the season."
In the Terriers' NCAC opener against Wooster, Schwartz picked up two hits with a triple, a run scored and three RBI helping Hiram to a 5-4, nine inning victory. And in game two, Schwartz had a hit, a run scored and an RBI.
The following day, the freshman helped the Terriers pick up two road wins at Wooster.
In game one, Schwartz had three hits, three doubles and four RBI, including the go-ahead, three-run double. In game two, the San Marcos, Calif. native added two more hits, two more runs scored and two RBI in the 9-4 victory.
Schwartz garners NCAC Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career. She is the first Terrier to garner NCAC Softball Player of the Week honors since
Kaitlyn Hager on March 12, 2018.
Hiram softball next takes the field on Saturday, April 10 when they travel to Gambier, Ohio to take on the Kenyon College Ladies in a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.
