FORT WAYNE, Ind. – December 11, 2021 – Competing in their fourth event of the season, Hiram women's wrestling finished in tenth place scoring 16.5 points at the Indiana Tech Warrior Open.
In her first-round dual,
Kylee Bentley won by tech fall over Riley Horvath of Indiana Tech. Following that, Bentley fell to Kory Phillips of Life University by fall. Bentley then took down Jaine Stephens of Cumberlands by injury default. In her final match of the day, Bentley dropped a dual against Alyssa Valdivia of Brewton Parker College losing by fall. The Hubbard, Ohio native captured fourth place wrestling at 109 lbs. scoring 12.5 team points.
JoRee Ybarra finished second on the team in points, scoring 4.0 while finishing seventh in her weight class of 191 lbs. The freshman wrestled in six matches for the event.
Bethany Smith, wrestling at 130 lbs., dropped two matches by fall against two members of Brewton Parker College in Leidaly Rivera and Brooke Hamilton.
Katie Vogt-Shields and
Kinora Hayes each wrestled twice during the event. Vogt-Shields lost to Jetlyn Michonski of Adrian and won by fall as did Stephany Dean of Cumberlands. Hayes took on Sierra Chavez of Campbellsville who won by tech fall. In her second match against Sienna Lejeune of Adrian, Hayes lost by decision.
The 16.5 points scored are now the highest of the season. Hiram has steadily improved their team scores over the last three matches scoring 13.0 and 15.0 points in their two previous events.
Campbellsville won the event scoring 234.5 team points.
Hiram next hits the mat for the first home event in program history facing off in a dual meet vs. Elmira on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. inside Price Gymnasium.
