GREENVILLE, Pa. – March 2, 2020- Despite scoring in double figures for the first time this season, the Hiram College women's lacrosse team fell 16-10 to Thiel College on Monday.
Hiram scored back-to-back goals in the opening minutes to take an early 2-1 lead. Junior Gianna Palmieri scored first for the Terriers, while sophomore Cat Lillibridge followed with an unassisted goal.
Lillibridge would score one last time in the quarter off a man-up opportunity to pull Hiram ahead (3-2) with 21:30 left in the quarter.
Down by one, freshman Sophia Leuma posted a goal off a free position shot (4-4).
The host tallied four unanswered goals to stretch their first-half advantage to 8-4.
Thiel's leading scorers, Mackenzie Quinn and Maddy Wightman put three past the Terriers, giving the Tomcats an 11-6 edge at the break. Senior Tayler Hall and Palmieri each added a Hiram goal in the frame.
Despite the host holding just a slight 5-4 advantage in the second, they still secured the 16-10 victory.
Freshman Lily Polen led the Terriers offensively, scoring three of Hiram's four second-quarter tallies. Palmieri and Lillibridge each added two goals apiece.
Hiram will return home to take on Muskingum on Wednesday, March 4. The matchup is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
