Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DANVILLE, Ky. - March 1, 2020 – Hiram Terriers softball dropped a pair of games to Centre College and Transylvania University on the final day of the Centre College Softball Invitational, falling to the Colonels, 9-4, and the Pioneers, 8-0 in five innings. The Terriers wrap up the weekend with a 1-3 record.

GAME 1: Centre 9, Hiram 4
After the Terriers went in order in the top of the first, Centre took the lead in the bottom of the frame. Three-straight walks loaded the bases for the Colonels, before back-to-back-to-back RBI singles gave the Colonels a 3-0 lead.

Jeskari Rodriguez got Mary-Carter Downing to pop out to first, but a two-run single by Haley Simon made it a 5-0 Colonels lead, and forced Hiram to make a pitching change. Centre would add three more runs before Bailey Scheck got Melissa Collins to pop out to short, extending their lead to 8-0 after one.

Scheck settled things down in the bottom of the second inning, leaving the bases loaded, and worked around baserunners in the bottom of the third and fourth before the Terriers got things going at the plate in the top of the fifth.

Kaitlyn Hager drew a leadoff walk to start the top of the fifth, and took second and third on Giselle Bahena's single to center. Rodriguez reached out an error, scoring Hager from third to put the Terriers on the board, and Mariah Sheffield followed with an RBI double, scoring Bahena to cut Centre's lead to 8-2.

Rebekah Lewan then slapped a single up the middle, scoring Rodriguez from third to make it an 8-3 ballgame. Hiram added another run on Kylie Perez's sacrifice fly, cutting Centre's lead in half to 8-4.

However, Centre added an insurance run in the bottom of the frame on Abigail Harper's RBI single, and Amanda Morgan shut the Terriers down over the final two frames to finish off the 9-4 victory for the Colonels.

Rodriguez (0-1) took the loss for Hiram, allowing seven runs, six earned, on five hits, while Alana Fullen (1-1) picked up the win for Centre.

Sheffield and Lewan each tallied two hits to lead the Terriers, with Sheffield going 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and an RBI, while Lewan went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

GAME 2: Transylvania 8, Hiram 0 (5 innings)
After a 1-2-3 top of the frame, the Pioneers took an early lead in the bottom of the first. Alyssa Nunn drew a leadoff walk, and Lexi Childers singled to put two on with nobody out. A fielder's choice loaded the bases for Annie Schuck, who knocked in two with a two-run single to give Transylvania a 2-0 lead.

But Kaitlyn Hager got the next three batters to strand runners at second and third, keeping the Pioneers' lead at just 2-0.

Hager worked around a one-out walk in the bottom of the second to pitch a scoreless frame, before the Pioneers added to their lead in the bottom of the third.

Childers led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Abby Frazier singled to center, moving Childers to third and one batter later, Janelle Hynes' RBI groundout made it a three-run Transylvania lead.

The Pioneers added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 6-0 on Becca Messing's two-run triple and Nunn's RBI double, before finishing off their 8-0, five-inning, run-rule shortened victory with two more in the bottom of the fifth.

Hager (0-1) took the loss for the Terriers, allowing eight runs on 11 hits, striking out three over 4.2 innings pitched. Cece Wittry (1-0) earned the win for Transylvania.

The Terriers will next open a six-game road trip on Saturday, March 7 in Maryville, Tenn. against the Maryville College Scots with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
