Box Score CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - February 8, 2020 – Though Hiram Terriers men's basketball outscored the Little Giants, 52-44, in the second half, a 17-point halftime deficit proved to be too much to overcome as the Terriers fell to Wabash College by the final score on 87-78 on Saturday at Chadwick Court.
Brodgie Gordon got the Terriers on the scoreboard first with his jumper 58 seconds into the first half, but the Little Giants answered with a 17-2 run to take a 17-4 lead.
Wabash led by as many as 22 in the first half as the Terriers struggled to find their touch, shooting just 35.7 percent from the field and 20.0 percent from distance.
Hiram cut the Little Giants' lead down to 17 down the stretch with five points from Sherman Dean III, and headed into the locker room down 43-26.
At the half, Dean III led the Terriers with 12 points.
Coming out of the second half, Wabash stretched their lead back to 19 on Harrison Halstrom's layup, before the Terriers made a run. Down 45-26, Hiram cut Wabash's lead down to 11 over the next five minutes, making it a 51-40 game on Antonio McQueen's fast-break dunk with 14:57 to play.
Jack Davidson and the Little Giants would bring Wabash's lead back out to 18 on Davidson's two-pointer with 10:57 to play, but again the Terriers responded, this time with an 8-0 run over the next two minutes.
Brodgie Gordon, who scored 22 of his 24 points in the second half, knocked down one of his six second-half threes to cut Wabash's lead to 67-58 with just under nine minutes remaining.
Hiram got as close as seven on McQueen's jumper with 7:05 to play, before a 9-4 run by the Little Giants once again made it a 12-point game, 78-66 with 5:23 left.
Down 14, 82-68, with 3:05 remaining, Hiram made one last run, pulling within seven on Gordon's three-pointer to cap off a 7-2 run with 33 seconds left. But the Little Giants made their free throws down the stretch to finish off the 87-78 victory.
With the loss, the Terriers drop to 6-15 (3-11 NCAC), while the Little Giants move to 14-7 (10-4 NCAC) with the win.
Gordon led the Terriers with 24 points, while Dean III added 22 and McQueen joined the duo in double-figures with 13.
McQueen led the Terriers with eight rebounds, as Hiram outrebounded the Little Giants, 39-33.
Hiram shot 48.4 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from three, while the Little Giants shot 48.8 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from distance.
The Terriers return home to host the Kenyon College Lords on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Price Gymnasium in their penultimate home contest of the season.
