Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio – February 28, 2020- Despite freshman Sophia Leuma picking up a hat trick with a three-goal performance, the Hiram College women's lacrosse team fell 17-6 to Marietta, Friday night.
The Terriers fell to 0-2 overall, while Marietta improved to 2-1 on the season.
The Pioneers struck quickly, scoring the first four goals of the game and led 4-1 10 minutes into the contest. Leuma scored the lone Hiram goal in the frame.
From there, Marietta responded with a 7-2 run to take an 11-3 lead at the halftime break. Leuma and Hall each tallied a goal in the swing.
The host opened up the second half with six unanswered goals before Leuma pulled out a hat trick to cut the deficit to 17-4.
Inside the final seven minutes, Hiram kept the Pioneers scoreless with junior Katy Breland and Hall each posting a goal (17-6).
The Terriers will return to the field on Monday, March 2. The matchup with Thiel is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start.
