Box Score OBERLIN, Ohio - January 18, 2020 – Hiram Terriers men's basketball fell to the Oberlin College Yeomen, 95-77, on Saturday at Philips Gymnasium.
Oberlin jumped out to an early 10-2 lead to open the first half, but the Terriers outscored the Yeomen, 11-3, over the next three minutes to tie the score at 13 on Sherman Dean III's three-pointer.
Back-to-back layups from Dorde Otasevic and Oliver Clingain again tied the score at 17, before the Yeomen opened up a 10-point lead, 25-15 with 10:20 left in the first half, with a 10-0 run.
Gordon and McQueen combined for 11 points over the next two minutes to help cut the deficit to two, 29-27 with 7:38 remaining in the first half, but the Yeomen responded with another run to bring their lead back out to double-digits.
Down the stretch, Austin Blatt and Gordon knocked down threes to cut into Oberlin's lead, and Kevin Beans Jr. hit a jumper at the buzzer to make it a six-point game, 49-43, heading into the locker room.
Gordon led the Terriers with 12 points at the half, while McQueen joined the sophomore in double-figures with 11.
But in the second half, Oberlin slowly put the game out of reach for the Terriers. A 7-0 run made it a 14-point game, 61-47, with 15:17 to play, and a 10-2 run made it 74-58 with just under 10 minutes remaining.
The Terriers cut the deficit down to single-digits on Gordon's three-pointer with 5:10 left in the second half, but they wouldn't get any closer as the Yeomen pulled away with a 95-77 victory.
Hiram falls to 5-10 (2-6 NCAC) with the loss, while Oberlin moves to 9-6 (3-5 NCAC) with the win.
Gordon led the Terriers with 24 points, four rebounds and three assists, while McQueen and Beans Jr. each added 13. Dean III joined the trio in double-figures with 12 points, while McQueen fell a rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards.
Hiram outrebounded the Yeomen, 40-35, but shot just 38.8 percent from the floor and 30.4 percent from three.
The Terriers will look to bounce back on Wednesday, Jan. 22 when they travel to Gambier, Ohio for an NCAC conference matchup against the Kenyon College Lords at 7:00 p.m.
