Late-Stage Goal Sinks Women's Soccer Against Mt. St. Joseph

Sept.21-HIRAM, Ohio- The Hiram College women's soccer team watched an early advantage slip as they dropped a 2-1 decision to Mount St. Joseph, Saturday afternoon. 
 
The Terriers offense was on fire out the gate with junior Hannah Ward finding the back of the net in the seventh minute of action (1-0).  
 
Minutes later junior Amber Baker and sophomore Kaitlyn Pongracz looked to stretch the Hiram lead with back-to-back shots which were saved by Mt. St. Joseph's goalie Megan Gilpin.  
 
The Lions responded with their first goal of the game from Madeline Rechel to tie the game 1-1. 
 
The rest of the half was played close with neither side posting another goal.  
 
Despite being outshot 12-5 in the opening half, Hiram goalkeeper Ally Green hung tough, making six of her nine saves of the game.  
 
Out of the break, the Terriers posted an additional five shots in the final 45 minutes of work.  
 
Mt. St. Joseph would cement their win in the 75th minute when Stefanie Autenrieb tallied a game-winner off a penalty kick to achieve the 2-1 victory. 
 
Hiram will return to Charles A. Henry Field on Tuesday, September 24 when they take on Mount Union. The matchup with the Raiders is set for 7:30 pm.
