Softball Swept by Ohio Wesleyan

HIRAM, Ohio- The Hiram College softball team fell twice in a conference doubleheader matchup against Ohio Wesleyan, Tuesday afternoon. 
 
The Terriers fell 5-4 in the first game, before dropping an 8-5 decision in game two. 
 
In the opening game, Hiram found themselves down by one after the Battling Bishops posted three runs in the first two innings. The Terriers posted two runs in the same frames with freshman Megan Davis doubling to the center field to score sophomore Giselle Bahena, and freshman Leah Valdez was walked with the bases loaded to bring home senior Chase Martinez
 
In the third and fourth inning, the game was at a stalemate with neither side posting a run.  
 
The action picked up in the fifth with Ohio Wesleyan stretching their lead off a two-run inning (5-2).  
 
In the bottom of the fifth, Hager singled to left field to bring home freshman Megan Davis. A single from Martinez singled through the right side to score sophomore Kaitlyn Hager to finish off the inning down by one (5-4).  
 
Hager posted the last hit of the game in the bottom of the seventh but neither side scored again, with Ohio Wesleyan securing the 5-4 win.  
 
In the circle, sophomore Bailey Scheck pitched a complete game with four strikeouts.  
 
In game two, the opening inning was played close with both sides tallying two runs apiece. In the first, a single to left center from Hager would score Bahena and freshman Isabelle Gonzales.  
 
The Battling Bishops tallied six runs between the third and fifth inning to take the 8-2 lead.  
 
In the sixth, the Terriers would hold OWU runless, tallying three of their five runs of the game. The scoring effort included runs from Isabelle Miranda, Gonzales, and Chavez.  
 
The sophomore duo Scheck and Hager split time in the circle with each pitcher tallying a strikeout apiece.  
 
The Terriers will have a quick turn around and hit the field on Wednesday, April 17, as they host Oberlin for a senior day matchup. The conference doubleheader is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. start.
