Softball Falls Against #9 Hope International

Mar.5-FULLERTON, Calif.- The Hiram College softball team fell twice against the #9 Hope International University Royals, Tuesday afternoon.   
 
In the first game against the Royals, the Terriers dropped a 3-0 decision.  
 
Hiram registered three hits in the matchup against Hope with freshman Kaitlyn Saffel leading the team with two hits in her three at-bats, and freshman Leah Valdez adding one. 
 
On the mound, sophomore Kaitlyn Hager pitched six innings tallying a strikeout.  
 
In the second game with Hope, the Terriers scored their first run of the afternoon from Saffel.  
 
The Royals would respond with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  
 
The second inning featured a pair of hits from the host putting Hope up 4-1.  
 
The third and fourth innings were silent for both sides with neither side tallying a run or a hit. 
 
The action picked up in the sixth with Royals ending the game early totaling six runs to claim the 10-1 victory.  
 
Offensively, junior Shalynn Call tallied the lone RBI, and freshman Megan Davis added the second Hiram hit.    
 
For day four of the California road trip, the Terriers will take on the Redlands on Thursday, March 7 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
