HIRAM, Ohio -- The Hiram College softball team stayed in the thick of the NCAC Tournament picture with a doubleheader split with Wooster on Tuesday.
Wooster (14-14, 5-3 NCAC) took Game 1 by a 4-0 score, but the Terriers (10-20, 4-4) posted a convincing 8-3 victory in the second contest.
Hiram found themselves trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the first of Game 2, before exploding for four runs.
Junior Heather Pahoresky got the scoring going with a RBI single to center to score senior Jessica Wahl (Akron, Ohio/Ellet).
The Terriers would load the bases later in the inning and senior Danielle Latine (Eastlake, Ohio/North) doubled to right field, clearing the bases and puttting Hiram up 4-2.
Hiram tacked on two more runs in the second inning on a RBI single by senior Meghan Garland (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) and a RBI groundout from Pahoresky.
Wooster was able to get a run back in the third inning, but Garland expanded Hiram's lead to 7-3 with a RBI double to right field to score Wahl.
Senior Kali Stover (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) closed out the scoring in the fifth with a RBI single to bring home Hoy.
Garland fired a complete game in the circle, striking out three batters.
Hoy went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Wahl score three times in the win.
In Game 1, Hiram was limited to just four hits as Wooster scored single runs in the first, fourth, sixth and seventh innings for the 4-0 win.
The Terriers will have a quick turnaround and will return to action on Wednesday, April 20 with a doubleheader at Ohio Wesleyan that is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
