HIRAM, Ohio -- The Hiram College softball team gave up one total run in a doubleheader sweep of NCAC foe Oberlin on Saturday.
The Terriers (8-18, 3-3 NCAC) won a low scoring affair in Game 1 by a 1-0 score and cruised to a 11-1 victory in the second game.
In the first game, freshman Makenzie Dombrowski (Streetsboro, Ohio/Streetsboro) fired a 3-hit shutout, striking out two. She only allowed base runners in just two of the seven innings in the game.
The Terriers scored the lone run of the game in the fourth, as senior Danielle Latine (Eastlake, Ohio/North) singled home senior Nicole Hoy (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick).
Junior Dana Perrotta (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) posted two hits to lead the Terrier offense.
In Game 2, it was senior Meghan Garland (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) shutting down the Yeowomen (1-26, 0-8 NCAC), giving up just one run and striking out two batters. The win was also the 29th of her career, which moves her into sole possession of second place on the all-time wins list.
Garland also posted a solid day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 3-RBI's and a run scored. Junior Heather Pahoresky (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood) finished with two hits, while driving in four runs.
The Terriers wasted no time scoring, getting two runs in the first on a 2-RBI single from Pahoresky.
Hiram blew the game open in the third, scoring four more times.
Pahoresky drove in Perrotta with a RBI single. Latine followed with a double that scored both junior Brittany Zajac (Corry, Pa./Corry) and Hoy and senior Kali Stover (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) closed out the scoring with a single to drive in Latine.
In the sixth, the Terriers got RBI hits from Garland and Hoy to open an 8-1 advantage.
Oberlin got a run in the sixth, but Hiram answered in the next inning with a 2-RBI hit from Garland and a RBI groundout from Pahoresky.
The Terriers 11 runs are a new season-high, as are the 18 total hits.
Hiram will have a quick turnaround and will host Marietta in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 17 at 1 p.m. The Terriers will also host the "Battle for Britt", where Britt Host, a Terrier fan battling Ewing's Sarcoma, will throw out the first pitch before the contest.
