KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Hiram College Softball team fell to Thomas More (Ky.) and Trine (Ind.) by identical 8-1 scores at the Spring Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Florida on Tuesday.
The Terriers are now 0-6 on the season.
Against Thomas More (3-2), Hiram got off to a good start. Senior Jessica Wahl (Akron, Ohio/Ellet) led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second by junior Emily Syrjala (Seattle, Wash./Seattle Prep).
Junior Heather Pahoresky (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood) ripped a single to drive in Wahl and give the Terriers an early 1-0 lead.
Hiram would hold that lead until the fourth, when the Saints exploded for seven runs. Thomas More tacked on another run in the sixth to close out the scoring in the game.
Senior Nicole Hoy (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) and Pahoresky managed the only two hits for the Terriers in the contest.
In the contest versus Trine (4-2), Hiram recorded 10 hits, but was only able to score one run.
The Terriers scored first in the third inning when Pahoresky singled with the bases loaded to score Wahl.
The Thunder responded with five runs of their own in the third to jump in front 5-1. Trine would add two more runs in the fifth and another in sixth for the 8-1 win.
Syrjala had three hits, with Hoy and Pahoresky each collecting two hits apiece.
Hiram will take a day off and will return to action on Thursday, March 10, with a double header. The Terriers will face Muskingum at 9 a.m. and Simpson (Iowa) at 1:30 p.m.
