KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Hiram College softball team fell to Rhodes (Tenn.) and Bluffton on its final day of competiton at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimme, Florida.
The Terriers end the trip at 0-10.
Against Rhodes (13-4), Hiram came up short by a 3-1 count.
Senior Brittany Bruening (Parma, Ohio/Parma) went 2-for-3 with a RBI for the Terriers.
The Lynx scored in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead, but Hiram responded in the second on a RBI single from Bruening that scored junior Heather Pahoresky (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood).
Rhodes would take the lead in the fourth and tacked on another run in the sixth for the 3-1 win.
Freshman Makenzie Dombrowski (Streetsboro, Ohio/Streetsboro) fired a complete game for Hiram, surrendering three runs and striking out four.
In the nightcap versus Bluffton (5-4), it was Hiram who scored first in the third inning on a RBI double by senior Meghan Garland (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge).
The Beavers struck for two in the fourth to jump in front, but Hiram answered in its next half inning on a RBI single by junior Dana Perrotta (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) that scored senior Nicole Hoy (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick).
Blutton responded with a run in the fifth and stopped a Hiram rally in the seventh to hang on for the 3-2 victory.
Garland gave up three earned runs in seven innings, striking out four batters.
Hiram will return home and will host Westminster (Pa.) on Saturday, March 19 in a non-conference double header. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
