WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Hiram College men's basketball team suffered a 100-69 setback at NCAC rival Wooster on Wednesday night.

The Terriers see their eight game win streak snapped and fall to 11-3 on the season and 5-2 in conference action, while the Fighting Scots improve to 10-4 and remain in a tie for first place in the NCAC with a 6-1 mark.

Sophomore Kelvin Jones (Sheffield Lake, Ohio/Brookside) led Hiram with 14 points and five rebounds, going 5-of-6 from the field.

Sophomore Paul Ortiz (Canton, Ohio/McKinley Senior) added 12 points and sophomore Trey Sanders (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Beachwood) finished with six points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Senior J.J. Woodson (Oakwood Village, Ohio/Bedford) got Hiram off to a nice start by draining a 3-pointer 45 seconds into the game.

Wooster would answer and jump in front 10-6, before a trey from junior Jeremiah Thomas (Cleveland, Ohio/John Hay) to trim the deficit to 10-9 with just under 14 minutes left in the first half.

Hiram would take a 13-12 lead moments later on a jumper from Sanders.

But from there the Fighting Scots would pull away using runs of 9-2 and 13-2 to take a 55-26 lead into the half.

Ortiz scored the first five points of the second half to cut Wooster's lead to 55-31.

But the Fighting Scots reeled off a 10-0 run to open up their largest lead of the contest at 65-31 and put the game away.

The Terriers finished 25-of-66 (37.9 percent) from the field but struggled from behind the arc, going 3-of-24 (12.5 percent). Wooster was 35-of-62 (56.5 percent) from the field and 5-of-15 (33.3 percent) in 3-pointers.

The Fighting Scots had a 42-35 edge in rebounding and outscored Hiram 52-40 in the paint.

The Terriers will look to bounce back on Saturday, as they close out their three-game road swing at Oberlin at 3 p.m.
