WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Hiram College softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader at Wooster on Saturday.

The Fighting Scots (11-10, 2-1 NCAC) took Game 1 by a 16-2 score and won the nightcap 5-3.

In the opener, Wooster exploded for 10 runs in the first inning to take control of the game.

The Fighting Scots added three more runs in the second, before Hiram (5-15, 2-4 NCAC) got on the board on a 2-RBI double by junior Nicole Hoy (Brunswick).

The game was called after five innings due to the NCAA's 8-run rule.

In Game 2, Wooster took a 5-0 lead into the seventh inning.

But the Terriers put together a rally in the seventh.

Hoy led off the inning with a single and moved to third on a single by junior Danielle Latine (Eastlake/North).

Senior Janie Linger (Akron/Firestone) followed with a sac fly to score Hoy and get Hiram on the board.

After a groundout, junior Meghan Garland (Mineral Ridge) doubled to drive in Latine. Sophomore Dana Perrotta (New Castle, Pa.) would follow with a RBI single, to trim the Terrier deficit to 5-3.

But Wooster would induce a fielder's choice to end the ballgame.

Sophomore Brittany Zajac (Corry, Pa.) fired a complete game, giving up four earned runs.

Hiram will be in action again on Sunday, when it hosts cross town rival Baldwin Wallace in a non-conference doubleheader that is set to begin at noon.
