HIRAM, Ohio -- Senior Richie Webb (London, Englad/Laude Lady Elizabeth School) scored twice as the Hiram College men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie with Wittenberg on Saturday.
The Terriers are now 6-7-3 on the season and 2-4-1 in NCAC play, while the Tigers stand at 3-11-2, 0-6-1.
Before the contest, Hiram honored its five seniors for their contributions to the program.
In the middle of the first half, Wittenberg looked poised to jump on top when Patrick Szymczak broke free. But senior goalie Matt Sacher (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) came out and denied Szymczak's attempt to score.
Hiram would then get on the board late in the first half with Webb's first goal of the contest. He was able to control the ball near the top right of the box and dribble past a few defenders, before chipping the ball over another and rocketing a shot into the lower right of the net to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers were able to tie the contest at the 58:09 mark on a goal by Robbie Russell.
Moments later, the Terriers had a chance to take the lead back when junior Zac Cairns (North Olmsted, Ohio/St. Edward) sent a cross into the box that senior Tanner Mathews (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) headed just wide of the goal.
A few minutes later, Cairns had a look at the goal, but his shot sailed wide.
The Tigers took the lead in the 86th minute, but Hiram responded a minute later. Mathews controlled a ball down the right side and sent a cross that deflected off of sophomore Blake Easterling (Barberton, Ohio). Off the deflection, Webb was able to control the loose ball and score from about 10 yards out to send the game to overtime. Webb now has six goals this season.
The Terriers held a 7-4 edge in shots in overtime, but came up empty and the match finished in a 2-2 tie.
Sacher made five saves in goal and is now 4-5-1 on the season.
Hiram finished with 25 shots, compared to 15 for the Tigers. The Terriers also held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks, including a 3-0 advantage in overtime.
Hiram will return to action on Wednesday, when it travels to faceoff against Oberlin at 7 p.m.
