MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Hiram College women's soccer team scored two unanswered second half goals to record its first NCAC victory by a 2-1 score over Allegheny (Pa.) on Wednesday.
The Terriers are now 5-10-0 on the season and 1-4-0 in the NCAC, while the Gators drop to 3-10-2, 1-2-2.
Allegheny struck just 12:43 into the match, when Niki Augustine found the back of the net to give them a 1-0 lead.
Junior Katelyn Mauch (Parma, Ohio/Normady) would connect on the equalizer in the 73rd minute, volleying in a corner kick from junior Emily Syrjala (Seattle, Wash./Seattle Prep). The goal was Mauch's seventh of the season.
The Terriers would then take the lead at the 78:36 mark. Junior Allie Glatt (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) would take a free kick and junior Kaitlin Zemanski (Munroe Falls, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) would control the attempt and blast a shot through the Gator defense and into the goal, giving Hiram the 2-1 lead.
From there, the Terrier defense would remain tough and didn't allow a Gator shot the rest of the way.
Senior Kailie Reed (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) made two saves in one half of action and sophomore Aline Mille (Medina, Ohio/Medina) made one stop and picked up her second win of the season.
"It was great to get our first conference victory today," said head coach Michael Cracas. "It was not easy to come-from-behind, but we kept battling. We will enjoy this one tonight and then begin preparation for a tough Wittenberg squad on Saturday."
After allowing the Gators to take 10 shots in the first half, the Terriers limited Allegheny to just one in the second half. Hiram finished with a 13-11 edge in shots in the match.
The Terriers will be back at it on Saturday, as they host Wittenberg at 5 p.m. Hiram will also honor its four seniors before the start of the match foe their contributions to the program.
