CRAWFORDSVILLE, IND -- Junior J.J. Woodson (Cleveland/Bedford) scored a team-high 20 points, but the Hiram College men's basketball team fell in double overtime at Wabash (Ind.) 89-78 on Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers drop to 7-4 overall on the season and 1-3 in NCAC play, while the Little Giants see their record improve to 7-3, 3-1.

Woodson has now scored at least 20 points in four games this season.

Sophomore Jeremiah Thomas (Cleveland/John Hay) added 16 points and five steals for the Terriers.

With Wabash clinging to a 63-59 lead, sophomore Kyle Deckerd (Louisville/Canton South) hit a three to make the score 63-62 with 17.9 seconds.

The Terriers would force a five second violation on the ensuing inbound to gain possession.

On Hiram's next possession, Woodson drove the lane and kicked it out to Thomas, who drained a 3-pointer at the top of the key to put Hiram in front 65-63 with three seconds left.

But the Little Giants were able to go the length of the court and score the game-tying shot to force overtime.

In overtime, Wabash would use an old fashion 3-point play to take a 72-71 lead with 1:09 remaining.

Woodson would split a pair of free throws on Hiram's next possession to tie the game. Thomas would then force a turnover and lay it in to put Hiram up 74-72.

Wabash would tie the game with 20 seconds left and the Terriers were unable to get a shot off in the closing moments, sending the game to a second overtime.

In the second overtime session, the Little Giants scored the first nine points to open a 83-74 lead, with 1:51 remaining.

Deckerd would respond with a 3-pointer to trim Hiram's deficit to 83-77, with 1:41 to play.

The Little Giants would miss on their next possession but would grab the rebound. Wabash would hit two ensuing free throws to take a 85-77 lead and put the game out of reach.

The Little Giants used a 22-4 run to open up a 28-12 lead, with 4:09 left in the first half.

The Terriers would close the first half on a 6-2 run to trim the deficit to 30-18 with 1:48 left in the half.

Wabash would take a 36-23 lead into the break.

The Terriers opened the second half on a 24-7 run to retake the lead 46-44 with just over nine minutes to play.

Hiram was 26-of-62 (41.9 percent) in shooting, while the Little Giants finished 32-of-60 (53.3 percent).

The Terriers forced 26 turnovers in the contest, which resulted in 31 points.

Daniel Purvlicis scored a game-high 27 points to pace Wabash.

Hiram has a quick turnaround and will be in action again on Sunday, when it takes on DePauw (Ind.) in a road contest at 3 p.m.
