GAMBIER, OHIO -- Junior J.J. Woodson (Cleveland/Bedford) scored a career-high 28 points, but the Hiram College men's basketball team fell at Kenyon 85-74 on Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers fall to 9-8 on the season and 3-7 in the NCAC, while the Lords improve to 6-11, 4-6.

Woodson bettered his career-high of 25 points, set most recently against DePauw (Ind.) on January 4. He finished the game 10-of-16 from the field, while pulling down four rebounds and dishing out three assists. 

Freshman Kelvin Jones (Sheffield Lake/Brookside) finished with 11 points and five rebounds and sophomore Jeremiah Thomas (Cleveland/John Hay) had 10 points.

John Bray led four Kenyon players in double figures with 20 points.

Hiram built an early 6-4 lead, but Kenyon went on a 23-4 run to open up a 27-8 lead with 7:43 remaining in the first half.

The Terriers were able to chip away at the deficit and trailed 45-33 at intermission.

In the second half, two free throws from Jones cut Kenyon's lead to 50-42.

But the Lords would respond with 13 consecutive points, to extend their lead to 63-42 with just under 13 minutes to play.

The Terriers would counter with a 13-2 run to pull within 10 points, 65-55, with 8:46 left in the game.

Hiram was able to trim Kenyon's lead to 82-74, but the Terriers were held scoreless for the final 3:21 of the game.

Hiram finished the game 25-of-55 (45.5 percent) from the field and 17-of-23 (73.9 percent) in free throws. The Lords shot 32-of-56 (57.1 percent) and went 18-of-20 (90.0 percent) from the charity stripe.

Kenyon held a 34-27 rebounding edge and outscored the Terriers 46-36 in the paint.

Hiram will wrap up its three-game road swing on Wednesday at Allegheny (Pa.) at 7:30 p.m.
