GREENCASTLE, IND.  --  The Hiram College softball team lost both games of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader against DePauw (Ind.) University, 4-1 and 4-1, in Greencastle, Ind.

DePauw (15-9, 6-0 NCAC) grabbed the early lead in game one, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly and then adding three more runs in the second to lead 4-0.  Hiram (5-11, 0-2 NCAC) scored what turned out to be its only run in the top of the third on a RBI-double by sophomore shortstop/second baseman Jessica Wahl (Akron/Ellet) to make the score 4-1.  But the Terrier offense was held scoreless the rest of the way as DePauw held on for the 4-1 victory.

Hiram totaled six hits in the game with six different players reaching base safely.  Wahl finished the game one-of-three in addition to scoring the RBI.

On the mound, sophomore Meghan Garland (Mineral Ridge) pitched the entire game, but would suffer the loss and is now 3-7 overall for the season.  She allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings.

In game two, the Tigers again grabbed the early lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning.  DePauw then crossed homeplate two more times in the second to take a 4-0 advantage.  Hiram got on the board in the top of the third thanks to a RBI-single by senior All-Region catcher Jess Bolanz (Randolph/Waterloo) to cut the deficit to 4-1.  But in similar fashion in the first game, Hiram would be held scoreless for the remainder of the game as DePauw posted its second straight three-run victory and completed the two-game sweep.

The Hiram bats totaled seven hits with Wahl and senior All-NCAC outfielder Sarah Loyer (Barrie, Ontario/St. Joseph's) both recording multi-hit games.  Wahl finished two-of-three with a run scored and Loyer went two-of-four. 

Sophomore Taylor Miller (Kent/Roosevelt) got the nod in the nightcap and pitched all six innings allowing four runs on seven hits and had three strikeouts.  She is now 1-3 overall for the year with the loss.

Hiram is scheduled to travel to Granville for a NCAC doubleheader against Denison University tomorrow (Sunday, Apr. 6).  The first game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
