Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

KISSIMMEE, FLA.  --  Following a pair of shutout victories to open its annual spring trip, the Hiram College softball team split its games on day two with a 10-4 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University, but defeating Thomas More (Ky.) College, 3-1, at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.

In the matchup against IWU, the Titans grabbed the early lead with a run in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI-double.  Hiram came right back to even the game at 1-1 in the fourth on a RBI-single by sophomore third baseman Nicole Hoy (Brunswick).  IWU quickly regained control in the bottom half of the frame and took control scoring eight runs that included a series of RBI doubles.  The Terriers got three of the runs back in the top of the fifth thanks to a RBI-single by sophomore shortstop/second baseman Kali Stover (Akron/Coventry) and a pair of sacrifice flyouts by junior All-North Coast Athletic Conference outfielder Miranda Wright (Richfield/Revere) and senior All-Region catcher Jess Bolanz (Randolph/Waterloo) to make the score 9-4.  The Titans added an insurance run in the sixth to round out the scoring and went on to the 10-4 victory.

Hiram recorded five hits in the game with Hoy being the only multi-hit batter finishing two-of-three to go along with a RBI.  Stover, Wright and sophomore shortstop/second baseman Jessica Wahl (Akron/Ellet) all reach base safely via a base hit.  Stover and Wright also had a RBI, while Wahl added a run scored.

On the mound, sophomore Meghan Garland (Mineral Ridge) started the game and pitched three and two-thirds innings giving up seven runs on eight hits and had one strikeout.  Fellow sophomore Taylor Miller (Kent/Roosevelt) pitched an inning-and-a-third in relief allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits.  Freshman pitcher/first baseman Brittany Zajac (Corry, Pa./Corry) pitched the final inning and gave up no runs on just one hit.

Against Thomas More, Hiram scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a RBI-single by Bolanz.  The lead remained a run until the top of the fourth when the Saints tied the game at 1-1 on a sacrifice fly.  The Terriers regained the lead with a pair of scores in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Wright and a RBI-bunt single by Bolanz to make the score 3-1.  Thomas More would get its leadoff batter on base to begin the top of the seventh, but Hiram would get the Saints to hit into three consecutive outs to take the 3-1 win.

Hiram was out-hit, 8-3, but took advantage of all three successful at-bats.  Bolanz finished with two of the team's three hits and went two-of-three overall in addition to two RBI.  Freshman outfielder Dana Perrotta (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) was the other Terrier to record a hit and was one-of-one for the day.

Garland pitched a complete game against Thomas More allowing just the lone run on eight hits.  She also tallied one strikeout in addition to recording the win.
