Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

KISSIMMEE, FLA.  --  The Hiram College softball team began its spring training trip with a pair of victories defeating Marietta College, 7-0, and Defiance College, 7-0, on the first day of participation in the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.

Against Marietta, Hiram took control early scoring four runs in the top of the first inning that included a three-RBI double by junior second baseman Angela Perella (Lyndhurst/Beaumont) with bases loaded.  The Terriers added to their lead in the fourth crossing homeplate on two occassions thanks to two hit by pitches with bases loaded to make the score 6-0.  Hiram tallied its final run on a RBI-single by junior All-North Coast Athletic Conference outfielder Miranda Wright (Richfield/Revere) as the Terriers would go on to post the 7-0 victory.

Hiram recorded five hits in the game with five different Terriers each finishing with a base hit.  Wright finished the game one-of-three with a run scored and two RBI.  Perella had a one-for-three effort in addition to the three RBI.  Sophomore shortstop/second baseman Jessica Wahl (Akron/Ellet) went one-of-two at the plate with a run scored and a RBI.

On the mound, sophomore Meghan Garland (Mineral Ridge) started off the 2014 season pitching all seven innings for her first win of the season and first shutout.  She allowed five hits and struck out four batters.

In the game against Defiance, Hiram again struck early, scoring a run in the bottom of the second inning on a RBI double by freshman outfielder Dana Perrotta (New Carlisle, Pa./New Carlisle).  The Terriers then blew the game open with a six-run sixth inning on a series of RBI base hits, including a three-RBI double by sophomore outfielder Danielle Latine (Eastlake/North) with bases loaded.  The seven runs would be all Hiram would need as the Terriers held the Yellow Jackets scoreless and posted back-to-back 7-0 shutout victories.

Hiram racked up 11 hits against Defiance with two players recording multi-hit games.  Wahl finished with a game-high three hits in four attempts and had a RBI.  Freshman pitcher/first baseman Brittany Zajac (Corry, Pa./Corry) was a perfect two-for-two and scored a pair of runs.

Zajac also started at pitcher for the Terriers and went the distance allowing no runs on four hits and struck out six batters for her first collegiate victory.
