HIRAM, Ohio – January 26, 2026 - Kamran Walton and Trezure Bates of track & field have earned this week's edition of Terriers of the Week. This comes after impressive performances from both athletes at SPIRE Academy last weekend.
In the 400-meter dash at the Spire Midwest Open on Saturday, Kamran Walton broke a 20-year-old indoor record, setting a new Hiram record with a time of 51.60, beating out the previous record of newly inducted Hall-of-Famer Bruce Alexander (51.85 in 2001). The sophomore from Barberton, OH later was a part of the men's 4x400 meter relay team that also included Kyle Filkill, Aidan Shiels and DeAco Curry, which collectively set a new school record, finishing in 2nd place with a time of 3:31.25. Walton will look to continue his impressive form on Friday, when the team travels to Baldwin Wallace University.
For Bates, she was impressive at the Spire Midwest Open this past Saturday, recording a time of 9.68 in the 60-meter hurdle prelims and then posting a 9.66 in the finals. She placed ninth in a field that was entirely composed of Division I and Division II athletes. The junior from Alamogordo, NM will look to continue this impressive run in Hiram's next indoor meet, when they travel to Baldwin Wallace on Friday.
