HIRAM, Ohio – February 7, 2025 – Hiram had one of its best results of the season, as the team rode the energy of the home crowd and picked up a 26-17 win over Ohio Wesleyan on Friday night inside Price Gymnasium.
The win came on a special night for the program, as Hiram Athletics honored nearly 30 members from its Winter Teams of Distinction, which featured members of the Terriers men's wrestling program between 1959 and 1984. Those teams combined for six OAC Championships and nine PAC runner-up finishes, along with 34 individual OAC Championships, 27 individual PAC Championships and 13 All-American selections.
It also marked the final home event of the 2024-25 season and the last time in Price Gymnasium for seniors Zach Harper, Seth Holt, Kaelon Lawson-West and Jimmy Thomas.
"I think that was the biggest crowd I've ever seen," Lawson-West said after the meet. "Probably the best experience I've had at home."
Lawson-West spearheaded his team in the 157-lb weight class, beating OWU's Skyler Cornell by technical fall (20-4) to carve out a 14-5 lead in the early stages. Ian Fuentes (125 lbs) won over Mason Irwin by major decision (14-2) and Jackson Bowers (149 lbs) beat Gabe Bulugaris by technical fall (19-1) to secure the advantage.
"It was the greatest experience I've had at Hiram," Holt said. "With it being my last time competing here, I wanted it to lay it all out on the mat."
Holt earned his first career victory in the 184-lb weight class to cap off his time in Price Gymnasium, beating Desmon Perry by decision (9-4) to inch Hiram closer to the dual victory. The Damascus, Maryland native is one of the few wrestlers in program history to log five seasons of competition.
Hiram took home the win thanks to Jaden Bell's (197 lbs) win by decision over Geoffry Kaminsky (11-8) and Zach Harper's win by forfeit in the 285-lb weight class. The home crowd rose to its feet to honor the program from the past and present just one more time at the conclusion of the event.
"I'm just so glad we got to end it here on a huge high," Thomas said of the final home meet. "It's a fantastic team and I love everyone here. I'm glad I could spend my college experience doing this."
Harper agreed with that sentiment.
"The development that we've had, the friendships that we've created, the coaches – everything from the last four years," Harper said of his passion for the program.
The Terriers will now set their sights on the PAC Championships next Saturday at 11 a.m. in Waynesburg, PA.
