BETHANY, West Virginia – January 25, 2025 – For the first time in program history, the Hiram men's swimming team finished with a perfect record in dual meets (8-0) with a dominant 137-12 victory over Bethany College on Saturday afternoon at the Alma Grace McDonough Center Natatorium.
The Terriers women's team was just as strong, beating the Bison by a score of 84-70 to earn a third dual victory this season.
Not only did Hiram sweep its opposition on Saturday, but it also completed a weekend designed to simulate the NCAC Championships, with the team competing on consecutive days ahead of the four-day conference-wide event next month.
Men's Recap
Hiram showcased its underclassmen in the 400-yard medley relay, with the team of freshman
Tanner Markley, and sophomore
Joe Krosky,
Ethan O'Malley and
Luke Mackall combining for a time of 4:31.31. At the end of the meet, the team of
David Slovenkay,
Owen Pastorius,
Jon Hybil and
Ethan Drake won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:43.78).
In the individual events, the Terriers won all nine events, a strong effort highlighted by the performances of Pastorius in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:14.92), Slovenkay in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.97), Krosky in the 400-yard IM (4:57.00), O'Malley in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.97) and Hybil in the 100-yard freestyle (52.37).
With an 8-0 record and its first unbeaten season in program history, Hiram heads into the postseason with about as much momentum as it could ask for. The Terriers' 18 wins over the last two seasons is also tied for their most wins in a two-season span in program history (18 wins between 1969-70 and 1970-71).
Women's Recap
The lone relay team made its mark in the 400-yard medley relay, with
Haven Papineau,
Natalie Brown,
Madison Fleischer and
Grace Basham teaming for a time of 5:20.22 to earn their team 11 ponints. Shortly thereafter, Brown dove back in the pool and won the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:30.66).
Fleischer continued her first collegiate season with another win, topping Bethany's Jordan Haslacker by just 0.19 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle (2:19.65 to 2:19.84). Papineau followed suit and won the 50-yard freestyle (20.06), putting the Terriers in prime position to gain another dual victory.
Fleischer, Papineau and Brown each added another individual victory to finish the afternoon in winning fashion. The trio won the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.22), 100-yard backstroke (1:09.00) and 500-yard freestyle (6:23.29) respectively.
For the women's team, the dual win marks another victory against a future PAC opponent, while also preparing it for a critical stretch in the season leading into the NCAC Championships.
