HIRAM, Ohio - August 7, 2024 - Hiram Athletics announced the hiring of Maddie Wilson as its new women's lacrosse coach earlier this week. Wilson brings nearly a decade's worth of coaching experience to the Terriers and will now lead the program's return to competition in the PAC for the spring of 2026.

"We are thrilled to have Maddie lead our women's lacrosse program and prepare for its return to competition in 2026," Director of Athletics Scott Pohlman said. "Her extensive playing and coaching experience make her a great fit to be successful here at Hiram College."

Wilson most recently served as an assistant coach at the University of Akron (2023-24) following seven seasons as an assistant coach with Longwood University (2021-23) and Ursuline College (2017-21 – interim head coach in 2018). While at Longwood (Division I, Farmville, VA), Wilson helped the Lancers to a six-win season in 2022, highlighted by Big South wins over Radford, Presbyterian and Winthrop. The team would carry that success over to the start of 2023, when it won its first two games on the road at George Mason and Kennesaw State.

"I am proud and excited to welcome back women's lacrosse to Hiram College," Wilson said. "Being a part of the Northeast Ohio lacrosse community and growing the game here has always been a goal of mine.  I express my gratitude to the leadership and staff of the Hiram Athletics Department for their belief in my abilities and sharing a strong vision for the program's future.  I look forward to leading the Terriers to success on and off the field."

Hiram women's lacrosse previously competed from 2013 to 2020 as a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). The program had seven all-conference nominees and tallied over 200 goals throughout those eight seasons.

The return of the program was made official this past June and comes on the heels of Hiram College announcing its return to the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) for full-time competition in 2025-26. Until then, Wilson will lead the charge in building the program to a high level against the new conference competition.

Wilson began her coaching career at Ursuline (Division II, Pepper Pike, OH), where she notably served as the program's interim head coach in 2018. The Arrows won six of their final 11 regular-season games that year, which qualified them for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.

Wilson was a standout lacrosse player, too, both throughout her collegiate years at Capital University and at the professional level as a goalkeeper and midfielder. She competed at the World Cup Lacrosse Festival in Surrey Park, England in 2017, as well as the European Championship in Netanya, Israel in 2019, where her team (US Elite) won first place.

At Capital University (Division III, Columbus, OH) from 2014-17, Wilson had a 37-12 record as the goalkeeper and currently holds the Capital women's lacrosse program record for career saves (427), save percentage (.525) and wins (37). She was an All-OAC selection in 2014 (First Team), 2015 (Second Team)  and 2016 (First Team). Wilson also landed the OAC Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2014 and First Team IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association) All-Great Lakes Region Honors at the end of the 2016 season.

Wilson began her lacrosse career at Chagrin Falls High School, where she earned All-American status. She earned her bachelor's degrees in psychology and coaching from Capital University and her Master of Business Administration from Longwood University.
