FAIRMONT, West Virginia - January 6, 2024 - The Hiram men's wrestling team took part in the Fairmont State University Invitational on Saturday, a big opportunity for the team to gain some more experience leading into the AMCC Quad meet next Saturday.
Ian Fuentes made some noise in the 125-lb bracket, beating Rio Grande's Colin Greenwood by fall (1:51). The sophomore would lose to Lindsey Wilson by fall (1:12) and to Trine by fall (2:14) to finish his weekend.
Grayson Smith and Will Brodbeck both picked up wins over Trine in the consolation bracket at 141 lbs; Smith won by forfeit, while Brodbeck won by fall (2:44).
Freshman Jayce Dietrich (157 lbs) returned to his winning ways by beating Rio Grande's Ethan Pannell by fall (4:19). Seth Holt (165 lbs) followed suit by beating Trine's Zach Lusk by decision (17-10) and Lindsey Wilson's Jesus Avila by major decision (9-0).
Junior Jimmy Thomas (174 lbs) beat Manchester's Justin Major by major decision (13-3), while freshman Davion Thomas (285 lbs) won by decision against Otterbein's Carter Wallace (14-9) and by fall (4:21) against Wayesburg's Jaron Polk.
Hiram will next host the AMCC Quad meet, which will feature four total teams, on Saturday at 12 p.m. inside Price Gymnasium in Hiram, Ohio.
