ALLIANCE, Ohio - November 4, 2023Â - The Hiram men's wrestling team finished 10th as a team in the first tournament of the season at the Mount Union Invitational in Alliance, Ohio on Saturday morning.
The team was led by senior
Alex Savering (141 lbs), who tied for third place in the 141-lb bracket with a 5-1 record and 19.0 team points on the day:
- Win by fall (5:00) over Parker Moore (Notre Dame College)
- Win by tech fall (18-3) over Jordan Nutter (Ferrum)
- Loss by tech fall (15-0) to Jacob Reed (Ohio Northern)
- Win by major decision (18-6) over Constantine Gehring (Gannon)
- Win by major decision (18-8) over Ambrose Boni (Mount Union)
- Win by major decision (20-6) over Desmond Diggs (Mount St. Joseph)
Sophomore
Will Brodbeck (141 lbs) and senior
Seth Holt (165 lbs) also had a great showing, as Brodbeck totaled 3.5 team points on the day and Holt totaled 4 team points on the day. Brodbeck had wins over his teammate,
Grayson Smith (fall, 1:59), and Ohio Northern's Jacob Reif by decision (12-7). Holt won against Ferrum's Dustin Martinez-Skarin by fall (1:49) to cap off the solid start to the season.
The Hiram men's wrestling team will be traveling to Washington, PA for the Washington and Jefferson Invitational next Saturday for another day of matches beginning at 9:45 a.m.Â
