SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – January 21, 2023 – The Hiram men's and women's swimming teams swept Wittenberg in their respective dual meets on Saturday afternoon. The men won by a 143-88 score and the women won 137-76.
Both teams have been successful in the 2023 calendar year, with the men winning all 3 of their meets and the women winning 3 of their 4 meets.
Men's Recap (143-88)
Freshman Owen Pastorius got things going for the men with a 1st-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:02.13). Freshman Jon Hybil followed suit with a win in the 50-yard breaststroke (29.45).
The underclassmen continued to score points for the Terriers, as sophomore Dayne Sauter won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.80. He kept the momentum rolling just two events later by taking down the 100-yard freestyle (51.43).
Sophomore Adam Ellis won the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.65) and Hybil picked up his second individual win of the day in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.84). Landon Hughes wrapped up the individual wins with a mark of 5:42.51 in the 500-yard freestyle.
The team of Hybil, Nathan Ratynski, Pastorius and Sauter capped off the day by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:36.45).
Women's Recap (137-76)
Lilly MacDonald was the first to strike for the women in the individual races, placing first in the 50-yard breaststroke (37.09). She later backed up that performance with another win in the 200-yard breaststroke (3:03.44).
Moraine Jackson made a splash in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a strong time of 6:14.95 to score her team 9 points. Jackson was also part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:59.94) that also included MacDonald, Adrianna Klepper and Elena Rinaldi.
Rinaldi also won the 50-yard butterfly (31.36) by over a second to secure the victory.
Both the men and women will resume competition at Oberlin on Saturday, Jan. 28.
