Box Score HIRAM, Ohio – February 26, 2020 - A game-winning goal from freshman Brett Johnson helped the Hiram College men's lacrosse team claim a 9-8 victory over La Roche, Wednesday night.
The win by Hiram marked the team's second-straight victory of the season.
The first half was played close with the first 15 minutes resulting in a 2-2 tie. Senior Hunter Jenkins scored both goals in the quarter, with the first being off an assist from freshman Trevor Flugum.
La Roche pulled ahead in the second quarter posting five goals to take a 7-5 lead.
The Terriers dominated the second half holding the Redhawks to just one goal in the last 30 minutes.
Johnson scored his first goal of the game with 2:40 remaining in the third quarter (8-6).
The fourth quarter held a majority of the action with junior Dom Medina cutting the La Roche lead to one (8-7).
Jenkins would score his third and final goal off a man-up opportunity to tie the game 8-8 inside the final five minutes.
Sophomore Gage St. Leone posted a trio of shots, but the game ultimately came down to the final minute, where freshman Ethan Mayer found Johnson for the game-winning goal.
The Terriers outshot the Redhawks 53-18, tallying 44 groundballs.
Jenkins led the offense with four goals, seven groundballs, and two caused turnovers
Johnson tallied his first multi-goal game with two goals and two assists. Mayer, Medina, and senior Jaret Walland each added a goal apiece.
Hiram will be back in action on Saturday, February 29, as the Terriers travel to Michigan to take on Adrian. The matchup with the Bulldogs is slated for a 5:00 p.m. start.
